Jill Blakey
Mother. Crafter. Wine, Music and Nature Lover. Lover Lover.
Jill has a lifelong love of art, experimenting with many different mediums and traditional crafts.
Growing up in rural Lincolnshire, Jill has been surrounded by the natural world, often using it as her inspiration.
In the 1980’s she attended the Lincolnshire college of art, gaining a diploma in design. Following this Jill went on to complete an honours degree in English and Art, specialising in printmaking.
Jill has worked in an acute mental health setting for more than 25 years as a therapy assistant. This has provided many opportunities to understand the importance of art as a positive influence in our lives.
As the mum of two boys, Jill hasn’t always had the time to fully engage in her artistic passions but now they are older finds she can spend more time painting and crafting.
‘At heart I am incredibly romantic. I love the idea of finding beauty and magic in the ordinary, or often overlooked natural world, such as beetles and trees.
The art and crafts I enjoy rely on the sometimes random (or magical) behaviour of the materials used. For example, the wet-felting process can reveal surprising and beautiful results as the fibres interact.
It takes practice and skill to achieve the desired goal, but this is where I find the joy.’
